This is a great overhaul of the follow/unfollow fake reciprocity standard that is plaguing all of the sites. The first thing I always looked at when someone followed me (I’ve deleted all social media except Instagram) was whether they had substantially more followers than people they were following. If so, it seemed valid to me. When someone follows me on Medium, now or during my last iteration, it’s clear their strategy when they are following 5k and have 267 following them. It’s grabby, especially on a platform that is supposed to equate following with reading. You can’t read anything when you are following 10k people on any platform so the goal is obvious. I really enjoyed this.
