Sure, but how you do it is another thing. Is the will to get seen so much that one does things like spam and fake followers to get there? That's the point. What is somebody willing to do and how will they excuse it because well, writers need to be seen.
If your book is award-winning, hasn't it achieved something already? Isn't that enough. If the awards are there, won't it find its way into the mainstream at some point. Or do you think forcing it into a few social channels is the way to success? All anyone is doing now is just pushing up numbers and thinking they are readers. A writer can have 20,000 followers and still have no one really reading what they write.
