I’m Taking a Break From Medium For the Holidays

And Why You Should Too

If your first reaction to the subtitle was to say out loud, “I don’t need a break from Medium,” then this is really for you. But it’s for me too. As much as I’d like to give you the best advice as to why you need a break, I think it will make more sense if I tell you why I am taking a break from Medium for the holidays. And then you can do what you want with it.

I’m taking a break from Medium for the holidays because all of us need to take a break from everything more often than we do. Specifically, I’ve found myself on the computer just way too much. I run all of my businesses from the comfort of my home office, which is great, but it’s also easy. Too easy.

I used to worry about the screen time on my phone, but then I solved that by being more mindful about how I use my phone and what for. But when Apple added screen time alerts for the desktop, I nearly lost my cookies. I am spending about nine hours a day at my computer. Nine hours.

A healthy dose of this time is spent on Medium. Writing. Editing. Reading. Publishing. And the tab is always open so it’s easy to just flip onto the screen every little while just to see what is happening. On the good side of things, since my failure and subsequent return to Medium, I rarely look at my Stats page. So…
